I am sick of seeing softly pink-hued garbage bags, coffee mugs, stickers, shirts, flags, hats, backpacks, gloves, scarves, picture frames and pencils. I know who makes them, and I know they promote a lie. My problem is Susan G. Komen and her foundation built on exploitation. I do not lack compassion or concern for breast cancer patients. My complaint is not with them. My complaint is with Susan G. Komen and many doctors and industries obtaining money and making it look like they really care enough to help people. They have a huge audience because...breast cancer is the leading cancer in women, and also because breast cancer is the leading cancer in women. What I mean by that is, yes, it has a audience just because of the sheer number of breast cancer patients but also simply BECAUSE it is women suffering. It seems to be one of those untouchable topics, especially for men, and is a campaign endorsed by the feminists.
Susan G Komen's slogan is, Race for the Cure. Really? I guess maybe that's true. She is trying to find a cure...A cure that gets around the enormous link abortion and contraceptives have to breast cancer. Have you ever wondered why in the world suddenly everyone knows someone who has had breast cancer? Why did this epidemic emerge from seemingly no where? Well...believe it or not it has risen with the increase in abortion and the use of contraceptives especially before the first child.
I refuse to give to an organization which promotes killing the innocent. Between 2003 – 2008 Susan G. Komen gave over $3 million to Planned Parenthood, the leading provider of abortion in the United States. Does it really make any sense to give money to an organization who will in turn give it to another that not only ends the life of millions of babies, but in doing so is raising the risk of the very thing we are trying to prevent? SGK is all about preventatives and being aware...why don't they prevent abortion? Why don't they tell women about the effects abortion will have and how much higher their risks of breast cancer will be as result?
The truth is, they have an agenda. They really want to provide a way for people to live exactly as they wish without consequence. But this utopia cannot be formed. It breaks all that God has set in order for us. Since the beginning of time sin has been punished. Lucifer sinned and fell from heaven. Eve was deceived as well as Adam and the gate to the beautiful garden was forever fastened. The consequences of sin are for our betterment – and in the end, it is for God's plan and design for us and His glory. God created us the way we are for a reason and when we act against that design we destroy ourselves.
Countless companies are helping sponsor SGK - so before you give your money to them, please consider whose till it will really end up in.

I agree 100 percent Lydia, I think you are absolutely right. Prevention and educate. I do believe there is a natural course of action. I do also believe that men will be punished for their own sins and not for Adams transgression. I believe people will be held accountable for their own sins otherwise how does one learn if wrong choices can magically disappear.
Thanks for posting this - it definitely got me rethinking some things. :-)
I'm glad you finally wrote about this! I'm proud of you! : )
I am going to have to disagree with you this one.
First of all, Planned Parenthood is SO much more then just abortions! I went to one of their clinics when I was unsure if I was pregnant with my son. I didn't have insurance, and I was given a free exam! They referred me to a doctor, and NEVER once brought up Abortion. NEVER!
Second of all I feel as if you are skewed a bit and possibly need to do some more research on the facts your are giving. After reading your theory that abortion causes breast cancer, I did some research and found that those theories were tested, and proven untrue. The theory was that abortion and spontaneous miscarriages could cause breast cancer.
So if your theory is that God is punishing women who had abortions by giving them breast cancer.. does that mean that God was punishing women who already suffered through a miscarriage as well?
I tried to find a reliable source to back up the theory you are refering to and found none.
I DO agree that God will judge us all in the end. I think that I am responsible for the choices I make and I have God to stand in front of at the end of time.
In the mean time I will still adorn a pink ribbon on my car, donate to Susan G Komen's foundation in honor of my Grandmother. Who was diagnosed with breast cancer.. and oddly enough NEVER had an abortion..
Dear Brittany,
Thank you so much for commenting. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts about this. I actually have done extensive research on Planned Parenthood and have to disagree with you. I do not disbelieve your story about your pregnancy and could not be happier that you had a positive experience with them. To begin with though, I would not choose to go to Planned Parenthood even if I was not planning on having an abortion for any service because if they (as a foundation) are willing to give an abortion they do not value life. The fact that Planned Parenthood does offer other services I will not refute....in fact, a lot of people know about these services and do not know that they provide abortions – that they are in fact the largest provider for abortions in the US. Just in the year 2007 Planned Parenthood performed over 300,000 abortions, gave almost 5000 adoption referrals, and almost 11,000 patients prenatal care...I believe that every life is sacred and important and the death of 300,000 babies really overwhelms me.
With regard to the breast cancer link...Abortion is a highly unnatural and harmful procedure and messes a woman's reproductive system and the change in her breasts her pregnancy has induced. If you look for it many studies have been done proving the connection between breast cancer and abortion....but often these studies are unpopular and go unpublished. Here is one story from a doctor:
My theory is not that you have an abortion, bam, God gives you breast cancer. I know that we have a gracious and loving God. But there is punishment for sin. Since Adam sinned we all sin. We live in a fallen world. But just because sin exists does not mean we celebrate it. I agree as well that I am responsible for the choices I make and will be judged by them some day. But disease, cancer, pain...all exist because of the Fall of Adam.
I am very sorry to hear about your grandmother....and was not insinuating that she had an abortion. Not all breast cancer is caused by abortion...I'm sorry if I stated something poorly. I'm sure there are many other factors and reasons why you can contract breast cancer besides having an abortion. But I do believe that abortions raise your risk by a huge percent. Whereas having a child decreasing your chances by 40%.
I hope that answers some of your questions! Again, thanks for the comment!
Ooops! forgot to attach that link!

This was really interesting and informative to read, Lydia, thanks! I did not know that the whole pink ribbon campaign against breast cancer gave money to Planned Parenthood. I have not donated to it, but often have been asked to at check-out stands...but now I will be able to have a good reason in my mind why I won't ever donate.
Also interesting to note about contraceptives and abortions being linked to breast cancer. I suppose it would also depend on the type of contraceptive (some reeeeally mess with a woman's hormones, whereas others are not quite so drastic, and also it depends on the woman..).
Keep up the good research and writing!
